Abstract
The struggle for “health for all” has been centuries in the making. From the pioneering work of the 19th century sanitary movements, to the rise of modern public health in the 20th, we have fought for what the World Health Organization has called “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity” for decades. Though public health has often been relegated to a technical endeavor, it is the work of social movements that have been responsible for some of the greatest achievements in our field. How have social movements in our lifetime contributed to the quest of health justice and where can they take us in these perilous times, when predatory governments seek to destroy all we have built together?
