Introduction of School/Department:
Professor Hagaman, Director of the Yale Qualitative Methods Innovation Program and Associate Professor within the Social Behavioral Sciences Department (SBS) at the Yale School of Public Health (YSPH), is seeking a postgraduate associate to support a suite of global health hybrid implementation clinical trials focused on suicide prevention and mental health. SBS conducts innovative research on social and behavioral determinants of health using quantitative and qualitative methods and a social justice approach to improving health among under-served populations.
Overview of the Position
The candidate may hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in psychology, public health, or related discipline, to gain clinical research experience related to global suicide prevention.
Training:
The post-graduate associate will participate in supervised research. One supervised component will involve training in and hands-on demonstration of human subjects research, including learning the technical management of several ongoing hybrid type II pilot clinical trials. The associate will be trained in describing the human subjects protections in human subjects protection documents, writing continuing reviews and modifications for IRB protocols, clinical trial compliance, communicating research findings to the public, and assisting with grant writing and manuscript publication, including literature reviews and data analysis.
Education:
The postgraduate will work in a highly stimulating scientific environment, learn about global mental health, suicide prevention, develop scientific presentation and manuscript writing skills. The postgraduate will learn about clinical trial and implementation science research design, data analysis and interpretation, and get a chance to develop their own scientific questions. They will actively participate in lab meetings and have the opportunity to present their results and ideas.
Mentoring:
The post-graduate associate will be mentored 1-1 with the PI and receive mentorship from our PhD-level researchers and our international research teams. Mentorship will focus on clinical research methodologies, suicide prevention interventions, public health research management, and career development.
This salaried position comes with health insurance. Appointments are one year with the possibility of renewal.
Compensation:
Compensation will be provided in accordance with Yale University postgraduate salary guidelines and applicable state law requirements.

Qualifications
Experience with implementation science research, clinical trial research, database management, and statistical and qualitative analyses are required (using e.g., R, Nvivo, Excel). Experience conducting research on mental health and with global populations is required. Other required skills include: ability to discuss and qualitatively engage with data surrounding serious mental health concerns (including suicide) while maintaining professional boundaries; ability to consult with research team members about participant safety and wellbeing; attention to detail; independence and self-motivation; organizational ability; excellent interpersonal skills; an ethic of teamwork and collaboration; and a commitment to ethical global health research and practice.
