Psychiatry Staff Spotlight: Victoria Imperato

Clinical Operations Administrator

1 Minute Read

What do you do at work?

Using the QGenda system, I oversee the schedules for psychiatric emergency and inpatient services. I schedule and track all extra compensation (moonlighting) shifts for psychiatry faculty and residents. I am also involved with special projects for clinical operations.

What led you to this career?

With more than a decade of experience working in medical settings, I have consistently enjoyed and excelled in the administrative aspects of my roles. I find it fulfilling helping others stay organized and operate efficiently.

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The importance of active listening. Stephen R. Covey wrote, “Most people do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent to reply.” This stuck with me throughout my professional journey and truly has made me an excellent active listener.

What energizes you outside of work?

Watching my daughter ride horseback on the weekends is a meaningful way I recharge and stay motivated during the week. Spending time with family and friends helps me to regroup and maintain positive perspective. In addition, maintaining my indoor plants is a calming, year-round activity that helps me stay mentally refreshed.

If you had to describe your work style as a weather pattern, what would it be?

Partly sunny. There are always clouds in the sky, just as there are always tasks and challenges at work. I bring warmth and positivity each day — the sun that consistently breaks through the clouds and keeps things moving forward.

Psychiatry Staff Spotlight will run monthly in the Psychiatry@Yale newsletter.
