Yale-VA Cigarette Research

The Menthol and E-Cigarette Study will be conducted through Yale & VA Mental Illness Research Education Clinical Centers. This study will address the potential contribution of menthol to nicotine’s addictive effects. The results of this study may help the development of science based policies that reduce the appeal and the addictive effect of tobacco products.

We are actively looking for smokers not seeking treatment.

What is involved in the Menthol and E-Cigarette study?

  • 5 visits to our office at the VA Hospital in West Haven, CT
  • A free physical exam
  • An IV for the purpose of intravenous nicotine and blood draws
  • Use of an E-cigarette that will contain menthol flavor or tobacco flavor
  • Compensation up $740.00

Eligibility & Compensation

  • Are you between the ages of 18-30 yrs old?
  • Do you smoke Cigarettes?
  • Have you been smoking for the past 12 months?
  • Are you curious about the electronic cigarette?
  • Are you currently not looking to quit smoking cigarettes?

Directions & Transportation

Public transportation to the West Haven campus is available via the CT Transit bus line. The New Haven Train Station is 2.75 miles away. Transportation from the train station to the hospital is available via CT Transit bus or by taxi. Parking - while free - is generally at a premium. We recommend that you arrive early to ensure you make it to your appointment in ample time. Shuttles run from the parking lots to the main entrances during normal business hours.

From I-91N to I-95N
Take the Interstate 91 N/Interstate 95 N ramp to Hartford/New London. Keep right at the fork, follow signs for Interstate 95 S/N.Y. city and merge onto I-95 SFollow I-95 S to CT-122 N/1st Ave in West Haven. Take exit 43 from I-95 S Merge onto I-95 S Take exit 43 for CT-122/1st Ave Follow CT-122 N/1st Ave and Dana St to Campbell Ave Turn right onto CT-122 N/1st Ave Take the 2nd left onto Dana St. Turn right onto Campbell Ave Destination will be on the left.

Follow signs for I-91 S/New Haven and merge onto I-95 S Keep left at the fork, follow signs for Interstate 95 S/N.Y. Head South on Ct-34 E/Derby Ave toward Bank St. Turn right on to Forest Road, Turn Right on to Boston Post Rd, Slight Left onto Campbell Ave, VA Hospital is on your Right.
