Psychiatry Staff Spotlight: Karina Linehan
Assistant Director of Faculty Affairs
What do you do at work?
I work with trainees, including postdocs and postgrads, through various parts of their training here at Yale. This includes onboarding, visas, and subsidies, among other items.
What led you to this career?
While getting my undergrad, I became an emergency medical technician and then a paramedic. I went on to receive my master's degree in healthcare administration which eventually led me to working in different departments and Danbury Hospital, and eventually at Yale New Haven Hospital. I really enjoyed the idea of working in higher education, which led me to this position.
What do you enjoy most about the work you do?
Everyday is something different. There are, of course, similar aspects that occur on the day to day, but you just never know what is going to pop up.
What inspired you to join this organization?
I have always had a deep respect for Yale as an institution. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I started a job at Yale New Haven Hospital, which eventually led to my employment on the university side.
What’s one thing on your bucket list?
I would love to travel more. I specifically would like to go to Ireland, Italy, and Greece.
What energizes you outside of work?
I love to spend time with my family. We welcomed our daughter in March 2025 and every day with her is an adventure. I am also an avid reader and thoroughly enjoy that when I have the time.
What 3 words would your friends use to describe you?
Kind, compassionate, and empathetic.
