Jonathan McMahon, DO, MA

Jonathan McMahon, DO, is a triple board-certified physician in emergency medicine, internal medicine, and emergency medical services (EMS), and serves as the Associate EMS Medical Director for the Yale New Haven Hospital Center for EMS.

At Yale, Dr. McMahon is dedicated to strengthening the connection between pre-hospital- and hospital-based care to ensure patients receive seamless, high-quality treatment from the moment 911 is called through recovery in the hospital. His clinical approach emphasizes compassionate communication, teamwork, and patient advocacy, particularly for critically ill and vulnerable patients navigating medical emergencies. He has focused on building strong partnerships with local EMS agencies, supporting first responders, and advancing education, simulation, and quality improvement initiatives across the region. Dr. McMahon is passionate about improving healthcare systems, supporting clinicians at every level, and ensuring the communities Yale serves receive expert, compassionate emergency care close to home.

Dr. McMahon received his medical degree from the NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine, followed by a residency in emergency medicine-internal medicine at the State University of New York Downstate Health Sciences University. He also completed a fellowship in emergency medical services at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He began his career in emergency medical services as an EMT, firefighter, and medic while in college, experiences that shaped his lifelong commitment to compassionate, patient centered care both in the community and within the hospital. During fellowship, he worked side by side with paramedics in the field, served as a flight physician providing critical care transport, and delivered real-time medical guidance to airlines and EMS clinicians caring for patients during complex emergencies.
