Photography

The Office of Communications oversees photography services for the School of Medicine, including:

  • Priority events such as Commencement and the White Coat Ceremony
  • Images for YSM website homepages and landing pages
  • Photography for the Yale Medicine website and marketing materials

The Office of Communications supports departments in meeting their photography needs. For projects beyond the office’s scope, it also maintains a list of approved freelance photographers available for hire.

The office also curates and manages a comprehensive photo archive featuring faculty, staff, and students, as well as campus scenes, buildings, and key events.

Types of Photography

Environmental Portrait

An environmental portrait features a posed subject looking at the camera, photographed within a meaningful setting rather than against a plain background.

Group Photo

A group photo is an environmental portrait of more than one individual.

Action Photography

Action photography shows the subject(s) "in action" at work. Action photography can be focused on clinical care, research, or education.
