Fundacion de Santa Fe de Bogotá (FSFB) was officially established in 1972 by two Yale School of Medicine graduates from Colombia, Drs Alfonso Esguerra Fajardo and José Felix Patiño. FSFB is a private, non-profit entity that provides highly complex health services in the city of Bogotá. FSFB owns the 205-bed University Hospital, the first Joint Commission International-accredited hospital in Bogotá and second in the country.

FSFB is a leading institution in the health sector, recognized for its positive impact on people in the provision of high-quality services, research, education and population health focused on the well-being of people and communities in Colombia and the region. It is accredited by international institutions in patient and caregiver care.

Disease Spectrum

  • Tropical diseases – (leptosprirosis, chagas disease, other mosquito borne illnesses( and a growing burden of NCDs.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Inpatient
  • Outpatient
  • ER
  • Help lead lectures/workshops and lots of am didactics for smaller groups (in Spanish)
  • No night or weekend calls
  • Research is not a focus for this clinical care rotation

Residents Accepted from:

  • Internal Medicine
  • Pediatrics
  • Emergency Medicine

Length of Rotation

  • Minimum of 6 weeks, including travel time from US

Logistics

  • Given that correspondence, clinical presentations and discussions are conducted in Spanish at FSFB, applicants who have demonstrated Spanish competency are preferred.
  • Reimbursement award of $3000
  • Credentialling paperwork is submitted to the FSFB Office of Education
  • No visa needed prior to arrival
  • Accomodations should be located within half an hour walk; lots of affordable AirBNB options in the Usaquén neighborhood
  • Bogota is situated at a height of 2640 meters above sea level.
