High School RULER in Mexico
Funding Source: Instituto de Tecnológico de Monterrey
Team Members: Jessica Hoffmann, Jennifer Seibyl, James Floman, Marc Brackett, Ruth Castillo Gualda (Universidad Camilo José Cela), Rachel Baumsteiger, Annette Ponnock, Sean McFarland
Beginning in 2016, 37 secondary schools (“Prepas”) affiliated with the Instituto de Tecnológico de Monterrey adopted RULER for High School. Research efforts to date have included longitudinal surveys of students and staff to track emotional intelligence skills, perceptions of school climate, growth mindset, academic goals, and educator burnout and engagement. Data from the project has been used to explore the linguistic properties of effective reappraisal statements and understand the role of school climate in creating classrooms in which students feel safe to take academic and creative risks. This partnership has been foundational to several enhancements of the RULER offering, including all RULER for High School training and curricular materials in Spanish, and expansions to providing Spanish-language RULER Institute training opportunities and curricular materials to Mexico as well as Central and South America.
