  • 00:03Yeah. We are always just
  • 00:04truly family.
  • 00:05I think we've built a
  • 00:06culture where everyone looks out
  • 00:08for each other. Our faculty
  • 00:09members, our trainees, our staff
  • 00:11are really special. They're committed
  • 00:12to the cause of giving
  • 00:14the best care for our
  • 00:15patients and moving our field
  • 00:16forward.
  • 00:18My personal goal is to
  • 00:20use the very science, the
  • 00:22excellence that we strive for
  • 00:23within our university, and leverage
  • 00:25that relationship into actually some
  • 00:27that's tangible for our patients,
  • 00:28our trainees.
  • 00:30That's actually the essence of
  • 00:31being an academic medicine. The
  • 00:33desire for excellence, the desire
  • 00:35for being great at something.
  • 00:37That's when great ideas come.
  • 00:38That's when innovations occur. That's
  • 00:40when the creativity
  • 00:41kicks in.
  • 00:44Fundamentally,
  • 00:46urology is a clinical specialty.
  • 00:48It is a surgical subspecialty.
  • 00:50So at the end, we
  • 00:52have to be able to
  • 00:53deliver the goods to our
  • 00:54patient. We have to be
  • 00:55great surgeons. We have to
  • 00:57provide them with great care.
  • 00:59Once the critical volume of
  • 01:01patients are within our doors,
  • 01:03then we'd start interrogating these
  • 01:05different issues we're facing every
  • 01:06day, and you can identify
  • 01:08questions.
  • 01:09Once you identify them, then
  • 01:11you go to the lab,
  • 01:12you look at the database,
  • 01:13you find ways to start
  • 01:15answering that question. Once the
  • 01:17answer is derived, then we
  • 01:18have to test it. So
  • 01:19it comes back to the
  • 01:20clinic, back to our surgical
  • 01:22arena, and try to answer
  • 01:23this question.
  • 01:26We are not gonna be
  • 01:27just following the guidelines that's
  • 01:29out there. There's guidelines for
  • 01:30what it is. It's a
  • 01:31standard of care. This is
  • 01:32what how things are supposed
  • 01:33to be done. We wanna
  • 01:35be able to move that
  • 01:36guideline forward.
  • 01:38That's what I envision for
  • 01:40department going forward, developing this
  • 01:42culture, this desire to really
  • 01:44be innovative, creative, testing out
  • 01:46new ideas, not being afraid
  • 01:48to be wrong.
  • 01:49And the way we're gonna
  • 01:50do that is by putting
  • 01:51people who are equipped,
  • 01:53with the appropriate tools and
  • 01:54appropriate,
  • 01:55training so that they can,
  • 01:57help and give the best
  • 01:58outcome for our patients with
  • 01:59urologic issues.
