The Program for Specialized Treatment Early in Psychosis (STEP) is based within a Public-Academic collaboration between Connecticut’s Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS), Department of Children and Families (DCF) and Yale’s Department of Psychiatry.
We are proud to host the STEP Learning Collaborative. This is a network of clinics across Connecticut that deliver early intervention services to all individuals with recent-onset schizophrenia spectrum disorders (‘first-episode psychosis’). We work within a Learning Health System to measure and continuously improve access and quality of healthcare. No one is excluded based on health insurance status.
Our work uses media messaging, community outreach, and academic detailing to reduce the time from psychosis onset to treatment (the Duration of Untreated Psychosis). We empower stakeholders across all sectors (e.g., educators, first-responders, parents, peers, community activists, clergy) to help us transform pathways to and through care.
Our aim is for all affected individuals to live fulfilling lives.
