Many parents and caregivers of the chronically sick children for whom we provide care have concerns about immigration enforcement and the impact it may have upon the health and wellbeing of their children. As pediatric providers, we hope to ensure that all sick children receive the uninterrupted care that they need. With that in mind, we want to share the following resources:

• YSM's Intranet site with resources and guidance for staff and patients in the event of Immigration Enforcement actions within Yale New Haven Health System or Yale Medicine
• CT Governor Ned Lamont’s Family Preparedness Plan, available in multiple languages
• American Academy of Pediatrics Tip Sheet
• Society resource with example letters that may be used by medical providers who feel that a sick child in their care will suffer negative medical consequences if their medical care is disrupted

We hope these resources will be useful in the care of the sick children under the medical supervision of the Yale Pediatrics community.

• Daniel S. Ebbs, DO, MS, FAAP, has received 2 funding awards recently. The first from the Laerdal Global Foundation: $300,000 over three years to expand his research program in Northern Uganda.
• During the last meeting of the European Society of Pediatric Endocrinology (ESPE) in Copenhagen in May, Dr. Alfonso Galderisi received the ESPE Young Investigator Awards and Dr. Tom Carpenter was the recipient of the International Research Award.
• Andrew Loza, MD, PhD, instructor of biomedical informatics and data science and of pediatrics, has been awarded the 2024 Hartwell Individual Biomedical Research Award. Loza's research focuses on developing next-generation predictive models to enhance care for hospitalized children. His funded project aims to create a deep learning "foundation model" tailored to pediatric clinical data, with the goal of rapidly and accurately identifying children at risk of life-threatening deterioration, such as sepsis or respiratory failure.
• Dina Ferdman is co-director of Fetal Care Center: Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital’s Fetal Care Center was recently named the 2025 Clinical Program Award winner by the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce. The award was presented on July 9, 2025, at the Chamber's 23rd Annual Health Care and Life Sciences Awards & Reception.
• The Yale Pediatric Endocrinology & Diabetes team had an incredible time at the American Diabetes Association Annual Scientific Session, taking part in many presentations, panels, and winning awards.
  • Alfonso Galderisi, MD, PHD, had 2 oral presentations and one poster. His presentations were titled, "A Real-Time Recalibration Algorithm to Improve the Accuracy of CGM Sensors in Newborns" and "Lower Incretin Effect and Reduced GIP Characterize the Metabolic Phenotype of People with Multiple Islet Autoantibodies and Normal Glucose Tolerance. For the latter oral presentation, he won the Diabetes in Youth Early Career Awardee. His poster was on, "Oral Disposition Index (oDI) as an Outcome Measure in Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) Clinical Trials—Evidence from Stage 1 and Stage 2 Trials".
  • Laura Marie Nally, MD, had an e-poster at the American Diabetes Association Annual Scientific Session for her K23 trial, “A Short Term Low Carbohydrate Diet Improves Glycemia in Adolescents and Young Adults with Type 1 Diabetes: Results from a Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial", and another poster for "Usability and Acceptability of a Biometric Dashboard with Tailored Coaching Tips for Exercise by Adults with Type 1 Diabetes". She was also the keynote speaker at this year's Breakthrough T1D Greater CT and Western MA Chapter annual meeting on June 18 at Wesleyan University.
  • James Lukasik, a post-grad associate with our team had a poster, “Physician Referral Pathway to a Commercially Marketed Digital Exercise Resource for Type 1 Diabetes—Implementation Metrics from a Clinical Trial”.
  • Elizabeth Doyle, APRN, had a poster entitled, “Influence of Stressful and Traumatic Life Events and Chronic Stress on Ad-lib Sweet Food Intake and Its Relationship to Obesity.”
  • Jennifer Sherr, MD, PhD, presented as part of a symposium on continuous ketone monitors, "Ketone Sensor Performance Criteria and Current Study Data".
• Dina Ferdman, MD, reappointment as associate professor of pediatrics (cardiology) in the Academic Clinician Track, July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2031.
• Yeisid Figueredo (Gozzo), MD, reappointment as associate professor of pediatrics (neonatal-perinatal medicine) in the Academic Clinician Track, July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2031.
• Daniela Hochreiter, MD, reappointment as associate professor of pediatrics (hospital medicine) in the Academic Clinician Track, July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2031.
