The Central ID Center, which offers ID cards, electronic fingerprinting, passport photos, and notary services, is moving to 221 Whitney Ave. from its current location near Yale Health. This relocation places ID services alongside other Human Resources functions, so new hires can complete Form I-9, register for parking, and get their ID in one location. Students, faculty, and staff who are not part of the School of Medicine should visit this location to get new or replacement IDs. The Medical ID Center will remain located on the lower level of the Sterling Hall of Medicine.

The Yale Pediatrics Department’s Award for Clinical Excellence (Yale Peds ACE) recognizes exemplary clinicians who go above and beyond for patients, deliver the highest quality of care and personify healing, innovation and collaboration. This individual embodies the department’s vision as a healer, innovator, and collaborator.
The Yale Peds ACE Award for April 2026 was awarded to Erin Faherty, MD! She was recognized by her colleagues as an exceptional clinician and her robust nomination noted, "Dr. Faherty leads a group of five pediatric cardiologists tasked with management of the inpatient cardiology service. She personally covers the service 3 out of 4 weeks per month. When not directly managing the service, she provides continuity through continued participation, especially for our complex patient with long hospital stays. On and off service, she expertly collaborates with a broad spectrum of providers including neonatologists, pediatric intensivists, hospitalists, anesthesiologists, and surgeons."
Another explained, "Dr. Faherty was key member of the Pediatric Covid Treatment Team. In this role she participated in the development of Multiple COVID related Yale Clinical Pathways that helped guide treatment across the health system." This recognition can be summed up by a note from a colleague that said, "Her willingness to jump into the fray and to go above and beyond for her patients is exemplary of the kind of academic clinician our department strives to recruit, develop, and retain.”

Yale Child Study Center will host a three-day, in-person training on Mentalization-Based Treatment for Adolescents (MBT-A) in June, 2026. MTB-A is a clinical approach for working with adolescents experiencing a wide range of mental health needs. The fee for the training is $1,200, and the deadline to register has been extended to May 29, 2026.

The Patient-Centered Mental Health in Pediatric Primary Care (PPP) course trains clinicians to diagnose and treat the mental health conditions that they see regularly in their practice. The fee to participate is $50 and online registration is now open, with a deadline of June 1, 2026.

David Stitelman, MD, has received funding from the Cystic Fibrosis Research Institute to advance his collaborative research on a novel fetal therapy approach for cystic fibrosis. Working with colleagues across pediatric pulmonology, biomedical engineering, and gene editing, his team is developing nanoparticle-based strategies to deliver gene therapies before birth—aimed at preventing organ damage that begins in utero. By combining mRNA delivery and high-fidelity gene editing, this work has the potential to move toward a one-time treatment for cystic fibrosis and establish a new paradigm for treating genetic diseases before birth.

Source: JAMA NetworkDr. Lyubina Yankova, hospitalist at Yale, presents findings from a large retrospective multi-center analysis across 106 sites examining whether the combination of procalcitonin and C-reactive protein (CRP) can match or outperform the inflammatory marker combinations currently recommended by the 2021 AAP guidelines for risk-stratifying febrile infants between 8 and 60 days of age. She shares why this combination showed similar sensitivity but higher specificity for detecting invasive bacterial infections — meaning fewer false positives, fewer unnecessary lumbar punctures, and fewer unnecessary antibiotics. She also addresses the limitations of retrospective data, why preterm infants were excluded from this analysis and what future research in that population might look like, and what it would take for guideline committees to feel confident enough to incorporate this combination into routine practice.
