The Manning Grant has up to $50,000 (USD) over two years available to support scientific research. Authors are encouraged to align budget requests with project needs, leveraging existing resources where and if available. Letters of Intent are due Monday, Dec. 1, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. ET.
This Fall, COMSEP is offering two types of grants to members:
COMSEP GRANT: to promote and support innovative educational scholarship that is designed, implemented, and evaluated by COMSEP members. Selected educational grant(s) will be supported for a total of $5,000 each. Grant funding is contingent upon available funds.
COMSEP APPD/LEARN GRANT: creates an opportunity for a larger grant promoting multi-institutional educational scholarship that spans the continuum of undergraduate medical education to graduate medical education (UME to GME). Study subjects are learners (medical students and residents), although UME educators could also be included. Selected educational grant(s) will be supported up to $15,000. Grant funding is contingent upon available funds.
This is an exciting opportunity for COMSEP members to advance their educational scholarship with innovative research, to expand the scholarly activities of COMSEP members, departments and the COMSEP organization as a whole. The Small Research Grants on Education Program supports education research projects that will contribute to the improvement of education, broadly conceived, with budgets up to $50,000 for projects ranging from one to five years. We accept applications two times per year.
This program is “field-initiated” in that proposal submissions are not in response to a specific request for a particular research topic, discipline, design, method, or location. Our goal for this program is to support rigorous, intellectually ambitious and technically sound research that is relevant to the most pressing questions and compelling opportunities in education.

The Research-Practice Partnership (RPP) Grants Program is intended to support education research projects that engage in collaborative and participatory partnerships with project budgets up to $400,000 and durations of up to three years. We accept preproposals once a year in this program.
We view partnerships as an important approach to knowledge generation and the improvement of education, broadly construed. Over the long term, we anticipate that research conducted by RPPs will result in new insights into the processes, practices, and policies that improve education for learners, educators, families, communities, and institutions where learning and teaching happen (e.g., schools, universities, community centers, parks, museums, other workplaces).

The Special Projects Program provides financial support for projects that further the APPD’s mission and strategic plan. Through the process described below, the APPD may grant up to $10,000 per selected project. The Board of Directors will determine the funds available for this program annually. The number of awards will be dependent on the funds available, and the size of the grant requests of the selected projects. Proposals are due each January 6, 2026.
The International Association of Medical Science Educators (IAMSE) wishes to encourage and support scholarships in medical science education and will fund multiple educational scholarship and curriculum innovation grants this year for up to $5000 each.
The purpose of the IAMSE Educational Scholarship Grants is to make funds available to support projects designed to systematically collect and analyze data related to medical education, which may employ a variety of methods but seeks to produce generalizable information for dissemination.
The purpose of the IAMSE Curriculum Innovation Grants is to make funds available to support projects designed for the general enrichment of teaching and learning that go beyond normal expectations of a faculty member, including but not limited to advances in pedagogy, technology, content development, or professional development.
Review Process: Grants must be received by 11:59 p.m. ET, January 15 to be considered for review and possible funding.

Nominations for this award will open Jan. 5, 2026.
This award recognizes an outstanding assistant-level faculty member who demonstrates leadership potential in their efforts to promote equal opportunity in medical education and access to quality health care; demonstrates efforts in addressing educational, societal, and health care needs of underserved populations in the United States; and is committed to a career in academic medicine.
The recipient receives a $25,000 grant to support a project performed in the United States focused on underserved populations. Recipients are required to accept the award at Learn Serve Lead 2025: The AAMC Annual Meeting in San Antonio, TX.
The Herbert W. Nickens Award is given to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to promoting equal opportunity in medical education and access to quality health care in the United States. Dr. Herbert W. Nickens was the founding vice president of the AAMC Division of Community and Minority Programs. Dr. Nickens’ passionate leadership contributed greatly to focusing national attention on the need to support underserved populations in medicine.

The AAMC Award for Excellence in Medical Education honors an individual or a team of two individuals whose contributions have had a demonstrable impact on advancing medical education. As the AAMC’s most prestigious honor, the AAMC Award for Excellence in Medical Education recognizes the highest standards in medical education. The awardee will receive the AAMC Award for Excellence and a prize of $10,000. Nominations are due Jan. 23, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. ET.

Any COMSEP member in good standing may be nominated (must be a current 2025 COMSEP member) and may be nominated for more than one position. We welcome people with diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences. We are looking for individuals that are passionate about medical student education, have strong interpersonal skills, and ideas that they would like to share to move our organization forward. This is a great way to get more involved within COMSEP, and we strongly encourage you to nominate your colleagues and self-nominate for these open leadership positions.

The deadline to submit nominations: November 19, 2025. The COMSEP elections will open in January, and close in late February so that new officers may be certified prior to the 2026 COMSEP Annual Meeting (March 25-28, 2026).

Submit your survey proposal to LEARN! APPD LEARN provides an infrastructure for multi-centered, collaborative research projects and a centralized data collection system. LEARN encompasses three research networks that share the APPD LEARN infrastructure and governance.
