Opportunities for Educators: Lead, Learn, Disseminate

The Yale Department of Pediatrics promotes excellence in teaching and mentoring by developing, supporting, and recognizing clinicians and educators to train the next generation of pediatric care providers and thought leaders. Through this award we will support and mentor faculty with limited experience in medical education scholarship as well as those with a history of previous scholarship. We will fund projects aimed at improving teaching, improving learning, curriculum development, and mentoring.

The SEEF helps faculty in the early stages of their career to develop skills in medical education and assessment research. The SEEF is designed to support faculty who are early in their medical education research career. Those interested in developing skills in medical education and assessment research and working collaboratively to develop new approaches to medical education assessment are encouraged to apply. This fellowship is a project-based faculty development program that has been established to:

• Foster professional development and career development.
• Promote assessment-focused scholarship about innovative approaches that will enhance the assessment of individuals across the continuum of medical education and in active independent practice.
• Support a cohort of faculty who will work as small teams with NBME staff and faculty mentors to identify and develop questions and a research project that fall within one of the current cycle’s themes.
• A successful fellowship outcome is a scholarly presentation or publication.

To achieve the fellowship goals, eight (8) individuals will be selected to form two education and assessment-focused research cohorts that will be led by NBME and collaborating faculty mentors. Each member of the cohort will be expected to make meaningful contributions to the project team.

Letters of Intent for 2025 are currently being accepted until Oct. 5, 2025.

The Manning Grant has up to $50,000 (USD) over two years available to support scientific research. Authors are encouraged to align budget requests with project needs, leveraging existing resources where and if available. Letters of Intent are due Monday, December 1, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. ET.

This Fall, COMSEP is offering two types of grants to members:

COMSEP GRANT: to promote and support innovative educational scholarship that is designed, implemented, and evaluated by COMSEP members. Selected educational grant(s) will be supported for a total of $5,000 each. Grant funding is contingent upon available funds.

COMSEP APPD/LEARN GRANT: creates an opportunity for a larger grant promoting multi-institutional educational scholarship that spans the continuum of undergraduate medical education to graduate medical education (UME to GME). Study subjects are learners (medical students and residents), although UME educators could also be included. Selected educational grant(s) will be supported up to $15,000. Grant funding is contingent upon available funds.

This is an exciting opportunity for COMSEP members to advance their educational scholarship with innovative research, to expand the scholarly activities of COMSEP members, departments and the COMSEP organization as a whole. The Small Research Grants on Education Program supports education research projects that will contribute to the improvement of education, broadly conceived, with budgets up to $50,000 for projects ranging from one to five years. We accept applications two times per year.

This program is “field-initiated” in that proposal submissions are not in response to a specific request for a particular research topic, discipline, design, method, or location. Our goal for this program is to support rigorous, intellectually ambitious and technically sound research that is relevant to the most pressing questions and compelling opportunities in education.

The Group on Educational Affairs (GEA) is now soliciting nominations for the Merrell Flair Award in Medical Education which honors an individual who has made a major contribution over a significant time period to the process or administration or transmission of information regarding medical education in North America.

The call for nominations closes 11:59 p.m. PT on October 9, 2025.
