Opportunities for Educators: Lead, Learn, Disseminate

The grants support education research projects that will contribute to understanding and disrupting racial inequality in education and work to reimagine generative possibilities to advance educational equity, with budgets up to $75,000 for projects ranging from one to five years. The NBME Emerging Innovators Grant Program empowers early- to mid-career faculty, researchers and program leaders to explore visionary ideas and make a lasting impact on the medical education landscape.

Applications for the 2026 cycle are due by June 15, 2026.

This grant is designed to support early- and mid-career medical education faculty or staff who share our commitment to advancing equitable assessment practices and developing innovative assessment approaches. Equitable assessment practices and educational programs can support a stronger health care system with the potential to improve patient outcomes and reduce health care disparities, while also enhancing educational experience of learners. They're seeking projects promoting innovative thinking to push boundaries of medical education and assessment locally and/or nationally.

NBME is looking for proposals that advance one or more of the following:

• Designing assessments that create a novel approach to measuring specific competencies.
• Creating high-quality assessment processes that support fair and consistent assessment experiences.
• Assessing the implementation of a novel program of instruction and/or assessment.

The NBME Stemmler Grant Program supports the research and development of innovative assessment approaches with the potential to advance assessment in medical education.

The application will open on April 6, 2026. Letters of Intent for the 2027 cycle are due June 29, 2026.

Medical education is evolving and the need for new and innovative ways to assess knowledge and skills is more critical than ever.

The Edward J. Stemmler M.D. Medical Education Research Grant Program provides grants to researchers taking on this important work by funding projects that have the potential to advance medical education assessment. Expected outcomes include advancements in the theory, knowledge, or practice of assessment at any point along the continuum of medical education, from undergraduate and graduate education and training through practice. Both pilots and more comprehensive projects are of interest. Collaborative investigations within or among institutions are eligible and encouraged, particularly as they strengthen the likelihood of the project's contribution and success.

Each year, as many as three awards of up to $150,000 each are given to research teams to support their efforts to drive innovations in the field.

Teams are required to include one junior member, which also provides an opportunity for researchers and faculty in the early stages of their career to receive mentorship and gain a broader understanding of medical education and assessment research.

The purpose of this initiative is to promote and support innovative educational scholarship that is designed, implemented, and evaluated by COMSEP members. Selected educational grant(s) will be supported for a total of $5,000 each. Grant funding is contingent upon available funds.

Mentorship and its associated feedback and guidance are important to COMSEP and each grant application should include information about the principal investigator’s project mentor, described in greater detail below. The total funding period of the grant is 24 months; hence projects that can be completed in 18 months are advised so that the remainder of the time can be used for data analysis/presentation and manuscript preparation.

Eligibility: The principal investigator of the COMSEP grant and/or any site-investigators must be a member of COMSEP at the time of application and throughout the funding period. Learn how to become a member. The topic of the grant proposal must align with COMSEP’s mission and strategic plan.

The Hearst Foundations fund educational institutions demonstrating uncommon success in preparing students to thrive in a global society. The Foundations’ focus is largely on higher education, but they also fund innovative models of early childhood and K-12 education, as well as professional development.

• Minimum grant size is $100,000
• If a grant request is unsuccessful, an organization must wait a minimum of one year from the date of declination before reapplying
• Grantees must wait a minimum of three years from their grant award date before the Foundations will consider another request

In 2013, the Research Committee of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) established the Early Simulation Career Research Award Program (formerly the SSH Novice Research Grant Program) to support the development of new investigators and research initiatives. The Society has awarded over 20 monetary awards to early-career research projects in healthcare simulation research.

Early career researchers developing methodologically sound simulation-based research projects using quantitative, qualitative, or hybrid, mixed-method approaches are sought for these awards. Studies that are both innovative and have strong potential for a positive impact on the simulation field are encouraged. The potential impact on the applicant’s career is also considered.

The Miriam Friedman Ben-David (MFBD) Award recognizes AMEE members who have made significant contributions as new educators within the field of health professions education (HPE) at a local, regional, national, or international level, with a specific focus on the area of Health Professions teaching.

Two MFBD Awards are now offered every year with the second award reserved for members from resource constrained countries.

Each award includes £1,000 (this may be subject to bank transfer fees and exchange rates), a certificate, and the opportunity to deliver a webinar as part of the AMEE webinar program.

The annual conference of the International Association of Medical Science Educators (IAMSE) offers many opportunities for faculty development and networking, bringing together science and education across the continuum of health professions education. This year’s theme is Flourishing Through Change: Adaptability, Innovation, and Growth in Health Sciences Education. The 2026 Conference will offer professional development workshops, focus sessions, oral & poster presentations, and networking opportunities. In addition to the program, the IAMSE Medical Educator Fellowship, IM-REACH, and the Foundations in Health Professions Education course will be offered.

The rapid advancement of AI is transforming how physicians are trained. AI offers the potential to personalize learning and improve the efficiency of medical education. In addition, AI algorithms can augment clinical decision making and decrease clinician administrative burden. Given the promise of AI tools, educators and institutions must be prepared to both responsibly and ethically implement them for the purpose of teaching and learning and prepare clinicians to effectively use evolving technologies in their clinical practice, MedEdPORTAL seeks innovative approaches to bridge these gaps.

This call, led by Elissa Hall, EdD and Cornelius James, MD, is designed to highlight the work of educators, learners, and staff who are driving the role of AI education towards the aim of improved patient care.

We seek submissions describing generalizable educational innovations that:

1. Equip educators with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively leverage AI to improve their teaching practices.
2. Promote the responsible and ethical use of AI for teaching and learning, such as AI's role in admissions, evaluation, feedback, assessment, coaching, and faculty development.
3. Prepare learners to effectively use AI in their clinical practice, addressing both opportunities to augment clinical practice and ethical considerations. By sharing strategies, we can collectively advance the field, improve patient care, and prepare the next generation of physicians for a technology-driven future.
