- 00:04Hi. I'm Elizabeth. I'm a
- 00:05PGY four, and I'm currently
- 00:07the general senior on the
- 00:08neurology team. Hi. I'm Ian.
- 00:11I'm a PGY two in
- 00:12the adult neurology program. I'm
- 00:14currently the junior on the
- 00:15general neurology service. So our
- 00:17general neurology service is our
- 00:19primary inpatient service, and we
- 00:20see a range of different
- 00:21neurologic issues, including patients with
- 00:24refractory seizures,
- 00:25patients with autoimmune disorders like
- 00:28MS or Tinnell,
- 00:30patients with neuromuscular disorders including
- 00:32myasthenia,
- 00:33a wide range of things.
- 00:35So my role includes, basically
- 00:37being the primary contact for
- 00:38all the patients on, that
- 00:40I'm covering on the service.
- 00:41So, I get here early
- 00:42to to get sign out
- 00:44from the night team. I
- 00:45pre round on my patients
- 00:46and present them during rounds.
- 00:48I also place orders during
- 00:50the day, talk to families,
- 00:53overall coordinate their care throughout
- 00:55the day. As general,
- 00:57senior, I supervise a team
- 00:58of residents as well as
- 01:00working with our APPs, which
- 01:02are really a core part
- 01:03of our team. We also
- 01:04have medical students that rotate
- 01:06on our service. And an
- 01:08exciting part of the role
- 01:09for me is that I
- 01:10get to really practice thinking
- 01:11like an attending.
- 01:13So I work with an
- 01:14attending who is a great
- 01:15kind of, mentor to ask
- 01:17questions to, but I try
- 01:18to put myself in the
- 01:19role of what would I
- 01:20do if I were an
- 01:21independent,
- 01:22provider leading this team.
- 01:24This is one of the
- 01:25first rotations that you do
- 01:26during your PGY two year.
- 01:28You work with the general
- 01:29senior and the attending to
- 01:30to learn the the basics
- 01:32of the fun most fundamental
- 01:34neurologic diseases,
- 01:35that we will see in
- 01:36the hospital.
- 01:38One of the great things
- 01:39about our residency and having
- 01:40a balance with the inpatient
- 01:42general neurology service in our
- 01:43outpatient clinics, that you really
- 01:45get to see the whole
- 01:46arc of someone's disease process.
- 01:48And a lot of people
- 01:49we treat in the hospital,
- 01:50we then see later in
- 01:51clinic who are doing better,
- 01:53who are on medication that
- 01:54helps them. And it's really
- 01:56inspiring to see the long
- 01:58term positive outcomes that can
- 02:00happen from work with starting
- 02:01from happening in the hospital.
- 02:03I really enjoy getting to
- 02:04know the patients and their
- 02:04families,
- 02:06talking to them every day,
- 02:07helping them through their diagnosis,
- 02:09and
- 02:10coordinating their care for their
- 02:12entire time in the hospital.
