  • 00:04Hi. I'm Wayne Zong of
  • 00:05PGY three, currently on the
  • 00:07emergency room console resident rotation.
  • 00:09So in the emergency room,
  • 00:10I'm responsible for all of
  • 00:12the emergency room stroke codes,
  • 00:14also other acute neurological issues
  • 00:15such as head leads and
  • 00:16seizures.
  • 00:17We also answer any of
  • 00:19the other consults that come
  • 00:20through ranging from numbness, weakness,
  • 00:22headache, to serve for GBS,
  • 00:24my CPA exam. The rotation
  • 00:25is probably the busiest of
  • 00:27all of the inpatient rotations
  • 00:28that we do, but it's
  • 00:29also the most rewarding. We
  • 00:30see all the stuff by
  • 00:32ourselves and also with help,
  • 00:33throughout the day. We see
  • 00:35the brand new presentations of
  • 00:37x y z, we cleage
  • 00:38ourselves, and we staff. So
  • 00:39we staff with our general
  • 00:41residents, we staff with different
  • 00:42attendings. There's always someone to
  • 00:44ask questions for.
  • 00:46So this rotation timeline wise,
  • 00:48you're only going to be
  • 00:49doing the PGY two and
  • 00:50PGY three. The start of
  • 00:51PGY two, they ease you
  • 00:53into it with more supervision,
  • 00:55you're helped along, and then
  • 00:56you see more of the
  • 00:57CED rotations along the latter
  • 00:59half of your second half
  • 01:00year coming into the middle
  • 01:01part of the third year
  • 01:03and then by the time
  • 01:03you're fourth year you're all
  • 01:04done, but you'll be actually
  • 01:05the one staffing these consults.
  • 01:07So junior residents like me
  • 01:09will call the senior resident
  • 01:10to staff. So the biggest
  • 01:11takeaway is that this rotation
  • 01:13is where you start to
  • 01:14train as a full on
  • 01:15neurologist.
  • 01:16Since you see everything by
  • 01:18yourself, you are triaging it,
  • 01:19you are building your own
  • 01:20differential, you're learning how to
  • 01:22take a good history, learning
  • 01:24how to take, not only
  • 01:25a full physical exam, but
  • 01:27more detailed and focused exam
  • 01:29for those specific issues.
  • 01:30And as you come out
  • 01:31of it, you realize how
  • 01:33much you've learned over the
  • 01:34last one to two years.
