What does it mean to belong? This question was on my mind recently, sparked by a conversation I had with a long-standing faculty member who had dedicated his life and career to the department. The same question came to me as I met some of the new faculty and trainees who joined us this academic year. I thought of it again at the staff appreciation picnic, where I had the pleasure of hearing from many of the individuals who work behind the scenes to help our department thrive.
Our department is large, and while we may not all know each other, I’ve come to realize—through meeting and listening to many of you—that we share many of the same passions and dreams, but also similar worries and concerns. We have a lot in common, and this is one of the things that unites us.
I look forward to learning more about what brings us together. Thank you for welcoming me into this incredible community.
All my best,
Wolfram
