With the start of the year, a time marked by new resolutions and beginnings, I am reminded of our department’s core goals of conducting innovative research, advancing exceptional patient care, providing access and support to the community surrounding us, and training the next generation of leaders in medicine. While our commitment to excellence in these key areas is one of the department's defining strengths, balancing the different facets of our mission can be challenging.
I have heard from many of you about the importance of recognizing and rewarding educational contributions. From training in health policy to clinical investigation, our faculty are equipping trainees with the practical skills to become multidisciplinary clinicians, physician-scientists, researchers, and educational leaders. By acknowledging these efforts, we can ensure they continue. Equally important is understanding the unique challenges and opportunities faced by those balancing the demands of research and patient care.
Ultimately, our collective success hinges on fostering an environment where we work collaboratively to support one another in recognizing and managing our multiple goals and priorities. This shared commitment is what will propel us forward in 2026 and beyond.
