Next week, at our end-of-year celebration, we honor the section's six graduating fellows: Neima Briggs, MD, PhD; Morgan Goheen, MD, PhD; Simone Blaser, MD; Tyler Luu, MD; Tayoot Chengsupanimit, MD; and Maria Koshy, MD. They join a remarkable group of previous fellows, many of whom have gone on to become leaders in patient care, medical education, academia, and public health. As we bid farewell to these accomplished individuals, we also look forward to the arrival of five new fellows who will soon join us to engage in various research and clinical opportunities.
In addition to celebrating our graduating fellows, the section congratulates Margaret Fikrig, MD, who retires on June 30. Known as a thoughtful clinician and role model, Dr. Fikrig is an expert in caring for marginalized communities. (You can read more about her career and impact in the story that follows.)
This newsletter issue highlights a few of the many areas of expertise from across the section. From advancing HIV care and drug discovery to treating infections in transplant recipients, our faculty, trainees, and staff are leading the way.
As we showcase our ongoing work and continue to make advancements in research, education, and patient care, I hope you enjoy the summer and find the opportunity to relax and recharge.
