What is the Yale Geriatrics Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (T32) program?

- An NIH-funded post-doctoral program designed to train future clinician-scientists and PhD researchers in geriatric clinical epidemiology and aging-related research
- A structured two-to-three-year program of mentored research, didactic training, and career development activities embedded in a highly productive aging research ecosystem that provides early-career investigators with the tools to become independent leaders in aging and geriatrics research
- Aimed at promoting research excellence in clinical epidemiology and research methodology relevant to clinical decision making, patient-focused research, health services research, outcomes research, clinical trial methodology, and laboratory-based research
- Training embraces and promotes comfort with conducting research in the context of the complexities of aging, including the accumulation of multiple chronic diseases and risk factors, the limitations of disease-based models, and the need for multifactorial-based approaches to diagnosis, decision making, and treatment

- A core component of training is a research project, or projects, performed with the guidance of a primary mentor and mentorship committee
- Didactic curriculum based on a structured and integrated aging-specific curriculum, tailored to the learning needs of our trainees, to develop key research and leadership skills
- Additional training draws from courses available through the Yale Clinician Scholars Program, Investigative Medicine Program, and School of Public Health
