Educator Programs & Events

The Center for Medical Education provides a synergized and centralized approach to educator development and professional development. These programs support the Yale community educators and those engaged in medical education, research, and teaching our students and trainees. The Center carefully selects topic experts from Yale as well as guests from other institutions to share their expertise with our educators. These sessions are offered via Zoom, accredited for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s), and are free of charge to anyone at Yale.

Yale Medical Educator Series – YES!

This year-long series of CME accredited, bi-monthly Zoom workshops is run by the Center for Medical Education, for everyone involved in teaching our students and trainees. The sessions are designed for Yale educators, from novice to expert, with up-to-date, practical ways to engage and inspire learners in lab, workshop, clinical, and classroom settings.

Medical Education Discussion Group (MEDG)

The monthly CME accredited MEDG sessions are held via Zoom for anyone at Yale involved in, or interested in getting involved in, medical education. These sessions are designed to address a timely topic of interest and engaging discussion among participants.

Medical Education Day at Yale

The Center for Medical Education is excited to host the 14th annual Medical Education Day at Yale in-person on June 4, 2026.

Developing Faculty Competency in Assessment

Yale collaborates with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) to co-sponsor a regional faculty development course for academic faculty concentrated on assessment skills. The four-part course is highly experiential and delivered as a blend of virtual and in-person sessions. The course will address learner assessment skills (such as direct observation and feedback) as well as tools and strategies to help faculty best meet their programmatic requirements (clinical competency committee input, multisource evaluations). The target audience includes program directors, associate program directors, fellowship directors, clerkship directors, chairs, heads of clinical competency committees and other core faculty with major responsibility for assessment of students, residents and fellows.

This course will be offered in September 2025.

YES!: Escaping the Tyranny of the Day: Make Space for What Matters to You

This session will establish context as to why it is necessary to differentiate jobs from careers, propose a rubric to classify and triage job versus career needs, and offer specific, behaviorally-focused action plans to make more time available for career development. Topics for which action plans are offered include calendar management, explicit prioritization of important but non-urgent tasks, more effective email use, and mitigating electronic distractors. The need to say no to particular asks and opportunities will also be covered. While applicable to faculty at all stages, the session is likely most impactful for those in early and mid-careers.

19th Annual Yale Digestive Disease Week Review

            Target Audience

Specialties - Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Primary Care

Professions - Non-Physician, Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, PA, Physician, Student

            Overview

The Yale Digestive Disease Week Review, hosted by faculty from Yale School of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Section of Digestive Diseases, is an annual continuing medical education program designed to deliver timely, clinically relevant updates from the national Digestive Disease Week (DDW) meeting. Each year, Yale faculty members attend DDW, identify the most impactful research, guideline updates, and therapeutic innovations, and then present these key learnings to regional gastroenterologists, hepatologists, primary-care clinicians, advanced practice providers, and other allied health professionals. This program ensures that clinicians who are unable to attend DDW receive a comprehensive and curated review of the newest advances in gastroenterology, hepatology, endoscopy, microbiome science, and digestive-disease management. The sessions emphasize translation of emerging evidence into daily clinical practice, promote interdisciplinary discussion, and support improved patient outcomes across the continuum of digestive health care.

            Objectives

            1. Summarize the most important scientific updates, guideline changes, and emerging clinical evidence presented at the national Digestive Disease Week meeting.
            2. Incorporate new diagnostic and therapeutic recommendations into clinical decision-making for common and complex GI and hepatology conditions.
            3. Evaluate the implications of new endoscopic technologies, innovations, and procedural data for patient management and procedural planning.
            4. Apply evidence-based strategies discussed at DDW to optimize patient outcomes in areas such as colorectal cancer screening, liver disease, IBD management, microbiome-related disorders, and gastrointestinal oncology.
            5. Identify opportunities to reduce variation in clinical practice by aligning care with current national standards and expert-reviewed data.
            6. Strengthen multidisciplinary collaboration by translating new research findings into coordinated care approaches across gastroenterology, hepatology, primary care, nutrition, and surgical specialties.
            7. Enhance interprofessional collaboration by integrating DDW evidence and best practices into team-based approaches involving physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, and other allied health professionals to improve communication, coordination, and overall quality of digestive health care.
