Training Opportunities

Yale Pathways to Science

Pathways to Science connects local middle and high school students with hands-on STEM opportunities at Yale University. Over 1,900 Scholars are invited to campus year-round for lectures, lab tours, demonstrations, and special events. While the program is open to students in New Haven, West Haven, and Orange public schools, many events are open to all K–12 students.

Course Title: Cracking the Code of Cancer: Exploring HER2 Expression in Breast Cancer Through Protein Analysis

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women worldwide and remains a leading cause of cancer-related deaths. Advances in research have shown that breast cancer is not a single disease, but a collection of subtypes influenced by genetics, hormones, and molecular changes within tumor cells. In this workshop, students will explore the biology of HER2-positive breast cancer and learn how HER2 (Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2) expression influences tumor growth, prognosis, and treatment strategies. Through interactive discussions with researchers and clinicians, students will gain insight into how personalized medicine and targeted therapies are transforming breast cancer care.

By the end of the workshop, students will emerge with foundational laboratory skills and a deeper understanding of how molecular diagnostics guide modern cancer treatment.

ACS CICRT Internship for College Undergraduates

Yale Cancer Center hosts the ACS CICRT Internship, a 10-week summer program designed to inspire the next generation of leaders in cancer research. Interns spend the summer engaged in hands-on research under the mentorship of an accomplished investigator in a Yale laboratory. The program provides students with meaningful exposure to cutting-edge cancer research while fostering critical thinking and scientific skills.

  • Participants receive a $5,000 stipend and benefit from a range of career-development and networking opportunities throughout the year, including workshops, seminars, and connections with Yale faculty and peers.
  • This immersive experience equips students with the tools, mentorship, and community to help them explore and pursue careers in cancer research.

ACS CICRT Post-Baccalaureate Fellows Program

The ACS CICRT Post-Baccalaureate (PB) Fellows Program provides recent college graduates with a two-year, mentored research experience at Yale Cancer Center. This program supports bachelor-level trainees who aspire to pursue a doctoral degree in a health profession or STEM discipline. PB Fellows conduct hands-on cancer research under the mentorship of Yale faculty. In addition, fellows participate in seminars, professional development workshops, and career-planning activities that prepare them for the next stage of their academic journey. Participants receive an annual stipend along with funds to support professional meeting travel, and healthcare coverage. The program’s ultimate goal is to increase the number of future cancer researchers and health professionals by providing strong scientific training, mentorship, and resources for success.

Yale Cancer Center Medical Student Clinical Fellowship
