Chad Binns, MD

Dr. Binns is a laboratory medicine physician specializing in transfusion medicine with research interests at the intersection of pharmacology and immunohematology. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in biology at Hendrix College where he studied miRNA therapeutics in a mouse model of prostate cancer. During his time as a medical student at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, he collaborated with researchers at Vanderbilt University to characterize renal erythropoietin-producing cells and participated in an HHMI-funded medical research fellowship at Janelia Research Campus where he developed novel photosensitizers as molecular tools for basic science research. Dr. Binns currently studies how nanoparticle drug delivery systems – molecular tools for clinical utility – can be applied in the context of transfusion medicine. Dr. Binns also maintains active clinical research collaborations studying how blood product formulation and modification correlate with patient outcomes.
