    Overview

Ladan Golestaneh, MD, is a nephrologist specializing in the treatment and management of kidney-related disorders, including high blood pressure, chronic kidney disease, and acute kidney injury. She also cares for individuals with kidney failure requiring dialysis and kidney transplant recipients. Her approach includes personalizing care plans for her patients, whether in a clinical setting or at home.

“I love patient care and refining my skills in the art of diagnosis,” she says. “I am personable and dedicated. I tell patients that they are not alone in their struggles and that we are a team.”

Dr. Golestaneh says she chose nephrology “because it is versatile and requires a commitment as a lifelong learner. I have been fortunate to experience opportunities that span intensive care unit, hands-on patient care, outpatient care, health policy, and population health research. My exposure to all the layers of medicine, and what I have learned as a result, offers a unique perspective on the life cycle of medicine and health in our country.”

As a professor of medicine at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Golestaneh’s research focuses on population health and clinical trials related to nephrology. Her work seeks to improve kidney care and expand understanding of effective treatments. Her policy work includes measure development and rule making for Centers for Outcomes Research and Effectiveness at Yale.

“I am passionate about applying the lessons I learn from patients at the bedside to inform health policies,” she says. “I like to use my creativity to create interventions that improve the lives of populations. I also like to mentor junior faculty and students and instill in them the passion I feel about my career.”

Dr. Golestaneh received her medical degree from New York Medical College, followed by a residency in internal medicine at Montefiore Medical Center, where she also completed a fellowship in nephrology. She also has a master’s degree in clinical research methods.
