Julio Nunes, MD, a fourth-year resident, has been awarded the 2026 Ruth Fox Scholarship by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM).
The scholarship will provide Nunes with free conference registration to ASAM’s 57th Annual Conference April 23-26 in San Diego, Calif. It also provides hotel and travel expenses, a stipend at the conference, and complimentary ASAM membership for three years.
The scholarship provides opportunities for physicians-in-training to attend the ASAM Annual Conference, where they can deepen their understanding of the latest advancements in addiction treatment and research.
Nunes is mentored by Joao De Aquino, MD, assistant professor of psychiatry, at the Pain and Addiction Interaction Neurosciences (PAIN) Laboratory at Yale School of Medicine. His research examines the intersection of pain management, addiction, and healthcare disparities, with the goal of improving equitable access to care. He is also committed to medical education and mentorship, having been recognized with a teaching award from the Yale Department of Psychiatry.
