OncLive®, a leading multimedia resource for oncology professionals, is pleased to announce the winners of the 14th annual Giants of Cancer Care®, including Yale Cancer Center's Lajos Pusztai, MD, DPhil, recipient of this year's Giants of Cancer Care® award for Prevention/Genetics.
Pusztai is a professor of medicine (medical oncology and hematology), and is also chair of the Breast Cancer Research Committee of the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG). His research group has made important contributions establishing that estrogen receptor-positive and estrogen receptor-negative breast cancers have fundamentally different molecular, clinical, and epidemiological characteristics. He has been a pioneer in evaluating gene expression profiling as a diagnostic technology to predict chemotherapy and endocrine therapy sensitivity and have shown that different biological processes are involved in determining the prognosis and treatment response in different breast cancer subtypes.
For more than a decade, Giants of Cancer Care has celebrated the visionaries whose groundbreaking discoveries, fearless innovation, and relentless dedication have transformed the landscape of oncology. Selected by a prestigious committee of more than 115 leading oncologists and previous Giants honorees, this year’s inductees represent the very best of oncology research, clinical advancement, mentorship, and patient-centered care. Their work has not only extended lives but fundamentally changed the trajectory of cancer treatment for generations to come.
The 2026 Giants of Cancer Care awards ceremony will take place Thursday, May 28, at 7 p.m. CDT at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago, IL, an iconic venue befitting a group of individuals whose contributions have helped illuminate the future of medicine.
