Explore the Difference Between Mentoring and Coaching

What's the difference between mentoring and coaching? And what does it mean to mentor “like a coach?” Join YSM’s professionalism and leadership development team on Wednesday, March 4, at noon, as they host a Grand Rounds session exploring these questions and more. Daryn David, PhD, PCC, assistant professor, Child Study Center, will moderate a conversation with Maria LaMonaca Wisdom, PhD, PCC, assistant vice provost for faculty advancement at Duke University.

Together, they will provide an overview of six distinctive ways that a “coaching approach” can transform mentoring practices, mentoring relationships, and mentoring cultures to better support professional growth and wellness.

    Three Learning Objectives

By the end of this Grand Rounds session, participants will better understand:

    1. The fundamental mindsets of the coach approach
    2. A range of behaviors they can adopt to bring coaching presence into mentoring
    3. The utility of coaching for enhancing professional and workplace well-being.
