    • 00:03As creative leaders in medicine and science,
    • 00:05we constantly push boundaries to advance
    • 00:07medicine for the benefit of humanity.
    • 00:10We have led the development of
    • 00:12the insulin pump, of drugs that
    • 00:14reverse the effects of obesity,
    • 00:16and of toplizumab, a new medication
    • 00:18that delays type one diabetes.
    • 00:19The work at Yale School
    • 00:21of Medicine has led to a
    • 00:23number of very important,
    • 00:25impactful discoveries.
    • 00:25One of them, of course,
    • 00:27is the insulin pump,
    • 00:29which is now the standard of care
    • 00:31practically for people with type one
    • 00:33diabetes. There are pivotal
    • 00:36moments in medicine.
    • 00:37Where true transformations occur.
    • 00:41We have done a number of studies
    • 00:43at Yale to lead to the development
    • 00:46of a drug that will delay the
    • 00:48onset of type one diabetes in
    • 00:51individuals who are at very high risk.
    • 00:53This is the first treatment for
    • 00:55diabetes since the discovery
    • 00:57of insulin 100 years ago.
    • 00:59So this profoundly changes
    • 01:00our approach to the disease,
    • 01:02but it's not the end
    • 01:04game. Right now there is an incredible
    • 01:07transformation occurring of novel
    • 01:09therapies for obesity treatment.
    • 01:11Obesity is associated
    • 01:13with 200 other diseases,
    • 01:15diseases like type 2 diabetes,
    • 01:17high blood pressure,
    • 01:19high cholesterol, heart disease.
    • 01:21Obesity is associated with
    • 01:2213 different types of cancer.
    • 01:25Because of the environment here,
    • 01:27it's possible to think creatively.
    • 01:30We need to bring together the
    • 01:32resources here and the expertise
    • 01:35from the stem cell center,
    • 01:38from immunobiology, from engineering,
    • 01:39from medicine and others here at Yale.
    • 01:44I truly believe that we
    • 01:46can transform medicine.
    • 01:47We can transform patients lives and
    • 01:49I think we're going to do that.
    • 01:53Learn how your gift can extend the
    • 01:55reach of our cutting edge work that has
    • 01:57helped millions connect with
    • 01:58the Development Officer today.
