Many of us recently gathered in our nation's capital for the annual American Urological Association (AUA) meeting, and I am extremely proud of our eight residents who presented this year — including Christopher Hayden, MD, who earned best podium presentation at the Urological Society for American Veterans' gathering, held in conjunction with the AUA. I enjoyed seeing and reconnecting with so many of you at our Alumni and Friends' reception, as well, which had record attendance. The energy and camaraderie were a testament to Yale Urology’s legacy.
Two of our outstanding researchers were also recognized by the AUA. Siyuan Cheng, PhD, and Yaru Xu, PhD, both working under the mentorship of urologic sciences division chief Ping Mu, PhD, each received a highly competitive Urology Care Foundation Research Scholar Award.
Just after the AUA, we hosted the 3rd annual meeting of the Transpacific Asian American Cancer Consortium, welcoming members from Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, along with colleagues from USC, City of Hope, and our own Yale faculty in urology and medical oncology. Together, we discussed urologic surgery trials across international borders, with the goal of launching our first study in 2027. It is enormously gratifying to see Yale Urology serve as a hub for this kind of global collaboration.
Turning to further achievements, I am pleased to share that Preston Sprenkle, MD, has been named chair of the Prostate Cancer Early Detection Guidelines Committee for the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) — an important appointment that will shape prostate cancer screening policy at a national level. Fed Ghali, MD, has been awarded the John Quale Fellowship from the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network, a competitive young investigator award that includes an invitation to present his research at the organization's conference. And please join me in congratulating Daniel Kellner, MD, recipient of one of the Passion Project Awards from the Aligned Clinician Enterprise (ACE) at Yale.
Finally, Yale Printing and Publishing Services, in partnership with our communications team, has received a national Platinum Award for their design and production of Yale Urology’s annual brief. This is significant recognition of the craft and care that goes into telling our department's story.
As we look ahead to an equally exciting summer and fall, please save these dates for upcoming Yale Urology events. More information and invitations to follow:
