Yale School of Medicine (YSM) student Winston Trope (Class of 2027) has been recognized with a 2026 Sustainability Award for his commitment to advancing environmentally responsible practices in perioperative care.

During the 2025–2026 academic year, Trope worked with perioperative teams to reduce waste in the operating room, helping to divert approximately 4,000 sutures, 780 gloves, and more than 200 instruments from disposal. He also supported the development of structured trainee education on environmentally and socially responsible surgical practices, with efforts focused on reducing waste, lowering costs, and improving supply chain resilience.

Trope was honored alongside staff and student awardees at the Office of Sustainability’s annual State of Sustainability and Awards Breakfast, held on Wednesday, April 8.
