The Yale School of Medicine Department of Surgery is pleased to announce the promotion of Claudia Chujoy, MHA, to the position of director of administration, effective immediately.
Chujoy has served as associate director of administration since 2020, when she joined Yale as the successor to Greg Kharabadze, MHA, in his department role. She has been integral to the daily and strategic operations of one of the school’s largest clinical departments, serving as a core member of the senior leadership team and supporting more than 600 faculty, residents and staff.
“Claudia is at the heart of nearly every operational process in this department,” said Benjamin Judson, MD, MBA, chair of the Department of Surgery. “Our faculty and staff rely on her expertise every day. This promotion is exceptionally well deserved.”
Chujoy has led several major initiatives that strengthened the department’s infrastructure and advanced its mission. Her accomplishments include guiding the department through COVID-19 and its recovery period, shaping hybrid work models and implementing strategies that stabilized operations and restored revenue across clinical, research and educational programs. She helped establish the department’s first unified faculty compensation plan—which has driven significant gains in productivity—and supported the department’s transition to the school’s funds flow model.
Throughout her tenure, Chujoy has championed the growth and development of her administrative team, creating multiple new positions that advance managers and promote alignment across the department, and launching a robust action plan to enhance staff engagement.
Chujoy reports jointly to Judson and Mary L. Henwood, MPH, senior director of finance and administration for the surgical specialties IBO (SOA).
