Workshop - Enhancing Student Engagement Small Group Learning–Lessons from High-Engagement Pre-Clerkship Pilot

Join us for an in-depth examination of a longitudinal high-engagement workshop pilot introduced at YSM last Fall. With an instructional focus on development of approaches to learning in a group, the pilot involved ten second year medical students who committed to attend every small group session for an entire semester with a single faculty facilitator. A second phase of the pilot occurred in Spring 2025 with two leaders and 18 students. The workshop will feature the reflections of pilot participants, including students, core facilitators, and expert co-teachers, followed by exploration of common challenges in small group facilitation. Drawing on actual experiences from the pilot, challenging scenarios in group learning will be presented for discussion.
