Morton Honored with ASMBS Distinguished Service Award

The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) has named John Morton, MD, MPH, MHA, as the recipient of its 2026 Distinguished Service Award, one of the society’s highest honors. The award recognizes members for significant contributions to the metabolic and bariatric field, with an emphasis on excellence in service, leadership, and advancing multidisciplinary care.

Morton serves as Chief of Bariatric & Minimally Invasive Surgery at Yale School of Medicine (YSM) and Yale New Haven Health, and as Vice Chair of Quality for YSM's Department of Surgery. He is being recognized for his leadership within ASMBS, including his role in developing the Obesity Summit to encourage collaboration across organizations and for helping to strengthen alignment between ASMBS and the ASMBS TREO Foundation. His mentorship and longstanding commitment to advancing the field have had a lasting impact on colleagues and future leaders.

The award will be presented during the Presidential Reception at the ASMBS Annual Meeting 2026 in San Antonio.
