The Department of Surgery is pleased to announce the inaugural Transformational Educators Honor Roll, recognizing outstanding faculty contributions to the department’s educational mission.
The 2026 honor roll includes 31 faculty educators selected based on feedback provided by surgical residents over the past year. Honorees received scores of 4.80 or higher (out of 5) across at least four evaluations in the categories of “Attending,” “Overall Teaching Ability,” or “Overall Resident Interaction.”
The initiative reflects the department’s ongoing efforts to strengthen and refine its teaching evaluation processes in response to trainee feedback, while advancing a broader Yale School of Medicine priority around transparent and consistent recognition of faculty contributions to education.
“The Transformational Educators Honor Roll sends a clear message that resident feedback matters, that we are listening carefully to it, and that exceptional teaching is deeply valued within our department,” says Benjamin Judson, MD, Chair of the Department of Surgery. “Our faculty educators shape not only the clinical skills of our trainees, but also the culture of academic surgery and the future of patient care.”
