Perspectives of Women in Science Lecture - "Rewarding Neuroscience: Looking Back on Mentorship and Research into Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptors and Addiction"

Please join us on Tuesday, May 19, at 4 p.m., in the Mary S. Harkness Auditorium for the eighth annual Perspectives of Women in Science Lectureship hosted by the MD-PhD Program and the Office of the Dean of Yale School of Medicine. This event highlights the unique perspectives of women scientists who discuss the personal and professional opportunities and challenges that shaped their paths to a successful research career.

We are excited to welcome Marina Picciotto, PhD, who will deliver this year’s lecture, “Rewarding Neuroscience: Looking Back on Mentorship and Research into Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptors and Addiction.”

Dr. Picciotto is the Charles B. G. Murphy Professor of Psychiatry, and professor in the Child Study Center, of neuroscience, and of pharmacology. She holds several leadership positions at Yale, including director of the Interdepartmental Neuroscience Program; deputy director of the Kavli Institute for Neuroscience; and is deputy chair for basic science research and director of the Division of Molecular Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry. Her research investigates the neurobiology of psychiatric illness, with expertise in molecular and translational neuroscience, behavioral pharmacology, and mouse genetics. Dr. Picciotto has won numerous awards, including the Carnegie Prize in Mind and Brian Sciences and the Langley Award. She is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Medicine and is president of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Dr. Picciotto earned her BS in biology from Stanford University, her PhD in molecular neurobiology at The Rockefeller University, and completed her postdoctoral training at the Institut Pasteur.

A reception in the Harkness Auditorium lobby will follow the lecture. Click here to RSVP. We invite all members of our community to join us.
