Diapers and period products will be collected at two Yale Child Study Center (YCSC) locations in New Haven, Conn. from May 8–29, 2026. The drive will benefit The Diaper Bank of Connecticut, leading up to a Yale Day of Service in support of the diaper bank in late May. YCSC Chief of Staff Alix Hunter is coordinating both efforts, in close collaboration with YCSC Chair Linda Mayes, MD.
A group of YCSC volunteers will join Hunter and Mayes on May 30, 2026, to sort and package supplies at the diaper bank's warehouse. This is part of the university’s annual celebration of service, when members of the Yale community—including alumni, employees, and students—come together to give back to their local communities. Since 2009, approximately 3,500 service projects have taken place, with nearly 300 occurring each year.
Hunter shares, "I am looking forward to volunteering with members of the Child Study Center community for this annual celebration of service that should be a fun day supporting our local diaper bank and bonding as a center." Mayes adds, “I am grateful for the long and ongoing connection we have with the diaper bank. We are truly unified in our missions to serve children and families.”
Since its founding in 2004, The Diaper Bank of Connecticut has become a model for diaper banks nationwide. As their programs have expanded, they now distribute period supplies and incontinence products to people in need, but their main program still focuses on providing infant and toddler diapers to low-income families. They distribute diapers through strategic partnerships with more than 60 community-based agencies throughout the state, including YCSC.
