Meet Yogita Verma, Senior Manager of Research Center Operations, Cardiovascular Medicine
Tell us about your role in the Department of Internal Medicine.
My role involves overseeing all aspects of operations at the Yale Cardiovascular Research Center. I work closely with the leadership council, faculty members, trainees, and both research and administrative staff to ensure efficient and seamless operations. I also serve as a key liaison across multiple functions, including Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), tenant services, facilities and capital projects, asset and space management, the business office, external vendors, and departmental leadership. My focus is on optimizing operational efficiency, strengthening communication, community building, and supporting the overall success of the department’s research mission.
Why did you decide to work at Yale School of Medicine (YSM)?
After spending a significant portion of my career in research, I transitioned into an operations management role to broaden my impact beyond day-to-day investigative work. In this role, I leverage my research background to contribute more broadly to organizational goals, applying strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills. This transition has enabled me to work more effectively across teams and contribute in a more interdisciplinary and impactful way. I’m grateful to Yale School of Medicine for providing the opportunity to grow into this role.
What do you enjoy about being at Yale?
My career at Yale has provided broad experience across varied functional areas and the opportunity to work with a highly diverse global community. The work is dynamic and complex, requiring adaptability, creativity, sound judgment, and effective prioritization across competing priorities. This environment is both demanding and highly rewarding, enabling me to contribute directly to the success of our program while continuing to grow professionally.
What is the most rewarding part of your work?
The most rewarding aspect of my work is creating an environment in which our research enterprise can thrive. I also value close engagement with our research community, which provides meaningful insight into their work and reinforces the purpose of our mission. Contributing to the success of our faculty and supporting the advancement of their scientific goals is particularly fulfilling.
My work also provides an outstanding opportunity to develop leadership experience within a dynamic, forward-thinking organization addressing one of the most critical areas of public health today: cardiovascular medicine.
What is a fun fact about you?
I love to dance and recently renewed my passion through performing on stage with a group, which has been a fulfilling creative outlet.
Tell us one piece of advice you will never forget.
One piece of advice that I will never forget is simple yet powerful: “Do the right thing.” It serves as a guiding principle in both big decisions and everyday actions, reminding me to act with integrity even when no one is watching.
This idea is beautifully captured in a quote by Oprah Winfrey: “Let excellence be your brand. When you are excellent, you become unforgettable. Doing the right thing, even when nobody knows you're doing the right thing, will always bring the right thing to you.”
