Faculty, Fellows Give Presentations at Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Annual Meeting

Several faculty and fellows in the Yale Department of Psychiatry gave presentations at the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Annual Meeting in San Antonio, Texas, in November.

Rabin Dahal, MD, assistant professor of psychiatry, and Olivia Hurwitz, DO, assistant professor of psychiatry, presented the general session “Gray Matters: Addressing Ageism in Mental Health Care of Older Adults in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Settings.”

Erin Davidowicz, MD, assistant professor of psychiatry, presented the general session “ADHD in Pregnancy and Postpartum: Navigating the Promise and Pitfalls of Treatment in C-L Psychiatry.” She was also accepted to the ACLP Developing Scholarship and Research Colloquium.

Zachary Harvanek, MD, PhD, assistant professor of psychiatry, presented the talk “Stress, Health, and Alcohol Use: Prazosin’s Role in Recovery and Resilience” during the general session “Brain on Illness, Illness on Brain: New Frontiers in Biobehavioral Care.”

Harvanek was a member of a working group for the ACLP Developing Scholarship and Research Colloquium. The group presented on “The Nuts & Bolts of Applying for a K Award." Harvanek also presented the oral paper “Early Life Stress Shapes How Obesity Measures Predict Epigenetic Aging and Metabolic Health."

Paula Zimbrean, MD, professor of psychiatry and founder and chair of the ACLP International Medical Graduates Caucus, was appointed chair of the ACLP Division Directors Forum. She presented the pre-conference skills course “Starting and Growing a Subspecialty C-L Psychiatry Service: A Hands On Course for C-L Clinicians” and mentored the Webb Fellow project “Prescription Opioids and Liver Transplantation: Shining the Spotlight on a Slippery Slope.”

Khalid Alshaibani, MD, a consultation-liaison fellow, presented the oral paper “Virtual Reality as a Fresh Air Break Alternative in Locked Psychiatric Units: Can Digital Replace Real?”

Sarah El Halabi, MD, a consultation-liaison fellow, presented the general session “Bridging Cultures: Practicing Cultural Humility in the Psychosocial Care of Breast Cancer Patients.”

Samuel MacDonald, MD, a consultation-liaison fellow, presented the oral paper “Tardive Dystonia and Electroconvulsive Therapy: A Case Presentation and Scoping Review” and the poster “A Case of Prosopometamorphopsia and Motor Disturbances After Recovery from Methamphetamine Overdose.”

The ACLP will be led during the next year by Paul Desan, MD, PhD, associate professor of psychiatry and director of the Yale Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Fellowship. Desan will serve a one-year term as president of the group, which promotes education, research, and advocacy to advance integrated psychiatric care for the medically ill.
