"What About Us? Taking Care of Ourselves as Mental Health Professionals"
Jessi Gold, MD, MS, is a mental health advocate and expert who has written widely for the popular press, including for The New York Times, The Atlantic, InStyle, Slate, and Self. In this talk, she will discuss how mental health professionals are trained to care for others, but often struggle to care for themselves. She will explore what burnout looks like in mental health fields, how the COVID-19 pandemic intensified existing pressures, and why workplace cultures can make it hard for trainees and supervisors alike to ask for help. She will also discuss practical, realistic strategies that individuals and teams can use to cope with burnout, support one another, and change the way they relate to the work.
