      <description>A new study in HemaSphere from an international team of collaborators from Yale School of Medicine and and their partner institutions in Ghana through the SickleGenAfrica Network  reports that serum heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), an enzyme that degrades free heme and counters hemolysis-related toxicity, is markedly elevated in sickle cell disease (SCD), with the strongest responses in children. </description>

      <description>In classrooms across the United States, five to 10 million children struggle with dyslexia. While offering intervention strategies in grades 1 through 3 can drastically improve the trajectory of a student’s education, the window for effective intervention is narrow. That makes early and accurate screening key. Now, researchers are discovering clues in our genes that could speed early assessment of the risk of dyslexia.</description>
