Dear Alumni,
It is again a great pleasure to send you this summary of recent activity in the Section of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Yale School of Medicine. As always, I am awed by the energy and accomplishments of our endocrine faculty, staff and trainees. I feel extremely fortunate to be surrounded by such dedicated caregivers, educators and researchers.
One big piece of news is that, during April, the section's research laboratories are moving to a new home on the eighth floor of 101 College Street. We are very excited but a bit frazzled by the intricacies of moving complex research laboratories to a new building. But, give us till May to settle in, and then come visit! We are very grateful to the Dean’s office and the university for providing us with such beautiful new facilities. It is a real testament to the school’s commitment to research into endocrine, metabolic science, and medicine.
Another piece of joyful news is that we have two new fellows joining us this July. Welcome to Sonya Prasad, MD, and Solangel Suarez, MD, both talented internists and budding endocrinologists. We are always invigorated by the arrival of new fellows each July. They bring curiosity, energy, and a wonderful passion for learning and diving into our three-fold mission of research, education, and patient care. Another piece of news is that we plan to increase the size of our fellowship to three persons per year beginning in July 2027. There is a great need for endocrinologists in the United States, and we look forward to increasing the number of our trainees to help meet this demand.
Finally, our section has a long and proud tradition of cooperation and collaboration with our endocrine colleagues in the community, many of whom trained with us. This spans the gamut of coordinated patient care, joint research projects, and, most visibly, a dedicated cadre of voluntary faculty who contribute importantly to our fellowship education program. These ties are highlighted in this newsletter through the article about Adam Mayerson, who serves as associate chief of internal medicine for community and Voluntary faculty, and two obituaries for Drs. Norm Marieb and Joe Belsky. We remember Drs. Marieb and Belsky are fondly remembered as clinical giants in Endocrinology and beloved teachers, and we celebrate Dr. Mayerson as a master clinician, teacher, and administrator who is carrying forward the torch of service passed by Joe and Norm. We are, indeed, lucky to count these individuals and our other voluntary faculty as valued members of our endocrine family.
Happy reading!
