Dear Colleagues,
I’m glad to finally see what seems to be an end to the most challenging winter I’ve experienced since moving to Connecticut from Los Angeles. The arrival of spring always brings renewed vigor to our work, as this season is a time of important academic meetings for our section. We have two major named visiting professorships scheduled in March (Kushlan) and April (Klatskin-Boyer), as well as our annual Yale Inflammatory Bowel Disease Conference, which will once again take place in April. All of this activity will be followed immediately by Digestive Disease Week at the beginning of May.
The online voting period for the U.S. News & World Report 2026-2027 "Best Hospitals," including GI and GI Surgery, is now open. I hope everyone will take a moment to log into Doximity and cast their reputation vote for Yale New Haven Hospital to support our section and colleagues.
Finally, I want to take a moment to remember Dr. Henry Binder, who recently passed away. Henry was a major force in gastroenterology, both internationally and here at Yale, for decades. He will be missed. You can read more about his life and career in the article in the newsletter below. We will celebrate his life and accomplishments at a special symposium in November. Please also look out for an In Memoriam article about Henry in Gastroenterology later this year.
As always, I hope you enjoy reading about some of the research, education, and clinical highlights from our section. Thank you for everything you do.
Sincerely,
Loren Laine, MD
Professor of Medicine (Digestive Diseases)
