Three Yale Department of Psychiatry faculty participated in a meeting hosted by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to discuss evidence-based approaches to address the intersection of menopause, substance use, and behavioral health.
Sherry McKee, PhD, Albert E. Kent Professor of Psychiatry; Tami Sullivan, PhD, professor of psychiatry; and MacKenzie Peltier, PhD, assistant professor of psychiatry were asked to attend the meeting as content experts to inform officials from the Department of Health and Human Services.
The title of the meeting was “Navigating Change: Integrating Menopause into the Substance Use Prevention, Treatment, and Recovery Continuum.” McKee was on a panel titled, “Substance Use Across the Lifespan: Women’s Risk, Resilience, and Recovery.”
The panel Sullivan and Peltier served on was titled, “Integrating Menopause into a System of Care for Midlife Women with Substance Use Disorders.”
The meeting was held May 14 and 15 in Rockville, MD.
