Yale Child Study Center (YCSC) Grand Rounds

"Avoiding the Red Herring: When Symptoms Distract from the Person"

In this session, Tara Davila, LCSW, will address the practice of cultivating and drawing from experience and expertise to address specific issues in mental health care. She will discuss how some people focus only on an issue with which they have the most lived experience, despite having an awareness of the complexity of human experience, systems, and interactions between the two. She will examine the pitfall of focusing only on a single presenting problem, all that is missed when greater context is not considered, and the impact on those involved.

This talk will be delivered using a Health Equity Rounds (HER) format adapted from a model developed in the pediatrics department at Boston Medical Center. HER provide a case-based, multidisciplinary forum to address the impact of bias and discrimination in healthcare, analyze related underpinnings and evidence-based tools, and employ strategies to ensure equitable access to care.

Please note that Health Equity Rounds sessions are not recorded, as is the case with Compassionate Care Rounds. These sessions are also not eligible for continuing education.
