The Department of Dermatology held its third annual retreat on June 4, 2025 at Yale Divinity School, with a field trip to the Peabody Museum's special exhibit, "Mind/Matter: The Neuroscience of Perception, Attention, and Memory." The retreat's keynote speaker was Lisa Feldman Barrett, PhD, University Distinguished Professor of Psychology at Northeastern University, with additional positions at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, where she serves as chief science officer for the Center for Law, Brain & Behavior. Barrett presented on predictive processing along with Philip Corlett, PhD, associate professor of psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine. Activities included virtual reality, exposure to illusions and hallucinations, and a "gross party," a concept coined by Barrett in one of her books that tests perceptions of food when presented in unappetizing ways.

Members of the Yale Dermatology Residency Program participated in a skin cancer screening event at Smilow Cancer Hospital at Trumbull on June 11, 2025, screening more than 40 patients.
Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer worldwide, and approximately one in five Americans will develop it by age 70. Nearly 9,500 people in the United States are diagnosed with skin cancer every day, and the five-year survival rate for people with melanoma - the deadliest type of skin cancer - is over 99% when detected and treated in its early stages. Skin cancer screenings conducted by dermatologists play a critical role in both prevention and timely treatment.
