"Digital Twins for Emergency Care"
R. Andrew Taylor, MD, MHS is the Robert E. O'Connor Distinguished Professor of Emergency Medicine and Vice Chair of Research and Innovation at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He is double-boarded in emergency medicine and clinical informatics and directs the CODE Lab, which focuses on AI development and deployment in clinical settings. His research is intentionally multidisciplinary, bridging biomedical engineering, wearable sensing technology, clinical informatics, and the ethical and philosophical dimensions of deploying AI in high-stakes medical environments.
In this talk, Dr. Taylor will explore how digital twin technology can transform emergency care by creating high-fidelity virtual models of patients and clinical systems. He will discuss how these in-silico environments can serve as testing grounds for AI agents and autonomous tools, enabling rigorous evaluation before real-world deployment.
