    Biography

Susan D. Boulware, MD, is a pediatric endocrinologist who specializes in diagnosing and treating children and adolescents with a wide range of hormone-related conditions, including disorders of growth, puberty, thyroid, adrenal, and pituitary glands. She provides care for patients with general pediatric endocrine disorders, helping manage conditions that affect development and metabolism.

Dr. Boulware is the medical director of the Yale Pediatric Gender Program. In this role, she leads a team dedicated to providing family-centered support and guidance for patients and their families.

Dr. Boulware emphasizes the importance of treating each patient as an individual. “Every patient should expect that their physician is caring for them, head to toe, heart to soul as an individual patient,” Dr. Boulware says. She believes in supporting both the patient and their family, recognizing that personalized care is key to addressing each patient’s unique needs.

As an associate professor of pediatrics at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Boulware’s research focuses on growth and development in children, particularly the metabolic actions of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), a hormone that plays a key role in growth. Her academic work also explores endocrine disorders such as pituitary and ovarian conditions.

Dr. Boulware received her medical training at the University of Texas at San Antonio, completed her residency at the University of Texas Medical School, and pursued her fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at Yale School of Medicine. She has received national recognition, including the Clinical Associate Physician Award from the National Institutes of Health.
