    Overview

Samreen Vora, MD, is an emergency medicine physician who focuses on diagnosing and treating serious illnesses and injuries that require immediate care. She provides rapid evaluations, stabilization, and a range of emergency procedures to help patients recover as quickly as possible.

Dr. Vora is an assistant professor of emergency medicine at Yale School of Medicine and director of interprofessional simulation at the Yale Center for Healthcare Simulation. She uses simulation-based learning and virtual reality (VR) to train doctors, nurses, and other hospital staff.

“Simulation allows us to practice not only procedures but also clinical decision-making and communication in high-pressure situations,” Dr. Vora says. “You have a virtual avatar patient who can talk to you… You can order labs, put an IV in, listen to the patient’s heart, and even provide oxygen—all inside this virtual environment.” The technology also allows remote collaboration across different hospitals.

Initially piloted with emergency room staff, the program is expected to expand to other medical professionals and even younger students. “We’re starting to use this virtual reality platform to expose high school students to medical scenarios,” Dr. Vora says. “It helps encourage them to go into these fields and be our next doctors.”

Dr. Vora received her medical training from Rosalind Franklin University, Chicago Medical School.
